New Delhi : Indian Railway on Wednesday launched “Auto Express” train that will target 25 percent rail share in automobile traffic. Auto Express train will run on Gurgaon (Gurugram) to Nidvanda (Banglore) route to make sure faster delivery of automobile cargo.
After launching Auto Express, Railway Minister Mr. Suresh Prabhu said,”Like our ever-growing population, auto population is also increasing on a faster rate. In fact auto sector is a fastest growing economy. If railways can tap it then it will be major source of revenue. The train would ensure timely delivery of the automobiles which would increase confidence of auto industry on railway’s credibility.”
Railway Board Member Mohamad Jamshed said,”These special trains have wagons to run 100 km per hour. So the travel duration has decreased from 70 hours to 57 hours.”
Right now around 2000 car move between Gurgaon and Nidavanda per month. After the launch of Auto Express train, Railway is hoping that this volume will go up to about 6000 cars per month.
